Stats: Australian cricketers who have scored 50 or more on T20I debut
As of July 2025, three Australians have registered a fifty-plus score on their T20I debut.
1. Ricky Ponting - 98* off 55 vs New Zealand (2005)
The opening duo of Adam Gilchrist and Michael Clarke had departed by the second over itself to hand over the responsibility to Ricky Ponting and the rest against New Zealand. At one point, the Australian skipper had scored only 40 off 30. Australia were five down an over after Ponting got to his fifty. The penultimate over of the innings by Daryl Tuffey proved to be the most high-octane one.
Ponting went berserk to bludgeon 30 off the medium pacer's six balls. He ended up just two runs shy of his century by the end of the innings, having faced three deliveries in the 20th over. Australia had set a total of 214/5 on the board. Michael Kasprowicz starred with a four-wicket haul to help his team clean the hosts up for 170 in 20 overs.
