The first week of the Super 12 round of the T20 World Cup 2022 has been done and dusted. In seven days of exhilarating cricket, fans saw heavyweight nations Pakistan and England succumbing to Zimbabwe and Ireland respectively.

Unfortunately, mother nature was not kind in the starting stages of round two of the marquee event as one has witnessed four games being washed out. However, amid all the cricket that the fans have been blessed with so far, there have been certain players who have not been able to deliver the goods at the T20 extravaganza and thus, might not feature in the playing XI going ahead.

Let us look at the players who might be dropped after the first week:

5. Azmatullah Omarzai

Afghanistan backed Azmatullah Omarzai since he made his T20I debut this year due to the skillset he brings to the table. The 22-year-old gives a seam-bowling option to skipper Mohammad Nabi and is a handy option with the bat. But the youngster has not performed as per expectations. In 15 matches he has played so far, Omarzai has taken just six wickets at an economy of 8.67 and has managed to score 91 runs at a mediocre strike rate of 97.84.

In Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup encounter against England, the all-rounder failed to impress as he could only manage eight runs off six balls and did not have much impact with the ball either. Following the poor outing, Nabi & Co. could look to drop him going ahead into the marquee tournament.

Given Afghanistan's batting struggled in the first game, Omarzai could be replaced by Darwish Rasooli to strengthen the batting lineup. The Afghan side already have five quality bowlers in their ranks, so the move of drafting in a batter in place of an all-rounder could be on the cards.
