The 17th edition of the Asia Cup gets underway on September 9, 2025, in the UAE, with matches scheduled in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, ending in the final on September 28. Originally meant to be hosted by India, the tournament was shifted to the UAE due to political relations involving Pakistan, though the BCCI remains the official host. For the first time, eight teams are part of the event, with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, joined by UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong from the ACC Men’s Premier Cup. Split into two groups, the top two from each will advance to the Super Four stage before the summit clash. The Asia Cup, alternating between ODIs and T20Is based on the World Cup cycle, returns this year as a T20 tournament ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. 15. Deepak Chahar Deepak Chahar. He represented Mumbai Indians for the first time in his career, after spending majority of his time with the Chennai Super Kings. The pacer's career has been hampered by repeated injuries, slowly making him out of contention from the start. Notably, Chahar is currently playing in the Duleep Trophy for the Central Zone, and looks all set to feature in the finale against the South Zone as well. He was also spotted in one of India's net sessions during the tour of England. Chahar is also the first bowler to have ever managed a T20I hat-trick. The Rajasthan pacer has represented India in both ODIs and T20Is, picking up 47 wickets across formats. 14. Bhuvneshwar Kumar Bhuvneshwar Kumar. His last outing for India came in the third T20I against New Zealand in Napier, after which he hasn’t been selected again. Recently, he spoke about the uncertainty surrounding his international future, pointing out that selection decisions are out of his hands. However, he's been active, leading the Lucknow Falcons in the UP T20 League and even switching IPL teams by joining RCB in IPL 2025. Notably, he is the fourth-highest wicket-taker for India in the T20 format, and is considered among the most consistent bowlers for his accurate line and lengths. With a new set of fast bowlers coming in and selectors opting for younger players, Kumar's comeback to international scene looks far from reality. 13. Yuzvendra Chahal Yuzvendra Chahal. (Photo source: X) Legendary India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recently cut short his County Championship stint with Northamptonshire and returned home due to personal reasons. The 35-year-old had made a decent impact this season, taking 12 wickets in three Division Two matches. He was also a part of Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League 2025, and was sold for a whopping INR 18 crore to the franchise that also made it to the finals. This was his second successive year with Northamptonshire after a productive 2024 season, where he picked up 21 wickets in four matches, including two five-wicket hauls. Chahal also featured in the One-Day Cup this year, claiming six wickets in his first three games before going wicketless in the next three. Meanwhile, the spinner is no longer part of the fray. 12. After a standout debut in 2022 and strong performances through 2023, IPL 2025 was far from ideal, as he claimed just 9 wickets in 11 matches for Lucknow Super Giants. Bishnoi, who was seen as an X factor in that tournament, hasn't been able to replicate that form since then. While he has been part of the T20 squad since then, he couldn't make it to the cut for the 2025 edition. He had a season worth forgetting for the LSG, and with strong performances in the domestic circuits, the leg-spinner can earn his spot back in the national squad. 11. Arshdeep Singh Arshdeep Singh. After shining for India in the Asia Cup 2022, he has bagged 99 wickets in T20Is and is approaching his 100th in just 63 matches. Currently in Dubai with the team, Arshdeep is set to share the new ball along with Jasprit Bumrah. He is India's highest wicket-taker in the shortest format of the game, having picked 99 wickets already. While he has confirmed his position in white-ball teams, he is yet to make his Test debut. Notably, the left-arm pacer is very active on social media and often shares behind-the-scnes moments from his personal and professional life. Off the field, he’s often seen in media and commentary circles. Notably, he played in the SA20 2025 for Paarl Royals, making his league debut on January 11, 2025. His SA20 stint kept him match-fit, and he was the mentor and batting coach for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the victorious IPL 2025. Karthik is also quite a popular social media buff as well. He keeps answering fans' queries and opining his takes on the ongoing discussions in the cricketing fraternity. The injury occurred when a Chris Woakes delivery hit him on the toe while he was batting on 37. Pant returned the next day with heavy strapping and went on to score a 54, but he missed the series-deciding fifth Test at The Oval. After consulting specialists in England and Mumbai, Pant has now returned to India and will begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. It is not confirmed whether Pant will be a part of India's upcoming red-ball assignments, as he has been ignored from the squad for the Asia Cup 2025 as well, owing to his injury. 8. Recently, he featured in the tour of England and made a valuable contribution, helping India level the series 2-2. The right-handed batter has heavily scored runs in IPL, but still fails to be in the 15-member squad for the T20I team. Rahul is currently in India and preparing for the Test series against the West Indies. He has been named in the India A squad for the upcoming home series against Australia A, beginning with the first four-day match on September 16. However, Rahul will be taking part only in the second and final match, before finally linking with the senior side for the two-match Test series against the Caribbean side at home, set to begin on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. 7. Hooda was last seen playing in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings, but got very few opportunities. With the current squad combination, it is highly unlikely that he makes it back in the cut. The all-rounder will next be seen in action during the ongoing 2025-26 domestic season, representing the Rajasthan Cricket Association. Notably, the subcontinental conditions are expected to aid his variations with the ball, while his finishing power with the bat will be handy. Sunil Chhetri, India’s football legend, even revealed that Kohli shared his fitness scores with him from London. The 36-year-old has been training at Lord’s, staying match-ready ahead of India’s upcoming ODI series against Australia in October.
