Going further back to 2016, India triumphed in the first-ever Asia Cup held in the T20 format under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The Men in Blue adapted brilliantly to the shorter format and went unbeaten throughout the tournament. In the summit clash, they outclassed Bangladesh to clinch the trophy, securing their first T20 Asia Cup title.

Virat Kohli was India’s leading run-scorer with 153 runs in four innings, while Hardik Pandya contributed significantly as the leading wicket-taker for India. The Player of the Tournament honor, however, went to Bangladesh’s Sabbir Rahman, who scored 176 runs and impressed with his contributions. For the record, this was MS Dhoni's last trophy as captain in multinational events.
