While some players did great, others cracked under the pressure of their massive price tags. They ended up being huge disappointments for their teams and fans. These high-profile players completely failed to perform well on the field despite being bought for humongous prices. Here are 5 players who failed to justify their expensive price tags in IPL 2026: 5. Auqib Nabi (Delhi Capitals) Auqib Nabi (Source: IPL/BCCI) Auqib Nabi had a tremendous Ranji Trophy for Jammu and Kashmir and, as a result, was in immense demand in the IPL 2026 auction. He was subsequently bought by Delhi Capitals for a staggering price of INR 8.40 crore. The medium pacer could not match the expectations in IPL 2026, though, failing to pick up a single wicket for the Delhi-based franchise in five matches that he featured in, conceding runs at an economy rate of 11.46. 4. He was acquired by PBKS for a massive price of INR 18.00 crore during the auction. He started his season slowly and picked up the pace later. The left-arm pacer managed to pick up just 14 wickets this season, as compared to 21 in IPL 2025. He also leaked runs with an economy rate of 10.21. His poor form was one of the main reasons for PBKS’ horrific run in the second half of the tournament. 3. The all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh entered the IPL 2026 season with massive expectations, with many terming him as Ravindra Jadeja’s replacement. Contrary to the expectations, it turned out to be a quite disappointing season for Prashant for the Chennai-based franchise. He managed to feature in six matches for them in IPL 2026, with only scoring 90 runs with the bat with a strike rate of 134.33. Even with the ball, he only bowled 12 balls, conceding 25 runs. Despite the humongous price tag, Prashant Veer could not deliver for CSK this season. 2. Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants) Rishabh Pant. It was a disappointing season for the left-hander, with him managing to score just 312 runs with a strike rate of 138.05, and just one fifty-plus score with the bat. Not just as a batter, Rishabh ended up having a disastrous season as a captain, with LSG finishing at the tenth position in the points table. He has resigned from the captaincy position post IPL, and it will be interesting to see whether he plays at LSG as a player or switch teams before IPL 2027. 1. The Indian star managed to pick up just four wickets, with a humongous bowling average of 102.50. It was one of the biggest reasons for MI’s poor outing in IPL 2026. He also captained them for one game this season, but the five-time champions failed to reach the playoffs stage. He was retained by Mumbai Indians for a whopping price of ₹18 crore. But his performance this year was nowhere near that quality. It was the biggest disappointment of IPL 2026.
