When Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma last played Vijay Hazare Trophy
Virat Kohli last featured in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2010 for Delhi, while Rohit Sharma’s most recent appearance came in 2018 for Mumbai.
India currently has two cricketing legends whose future in the national One-Day International (ODI) team remains uncertain, former Indian captain Virat Kohli and current ODI captain Rohit Sharma. Both last represented India during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. After achieving glory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, both players retired from T20 internationals and subsequently stepped away from Test cricket in May 2025, just before the announcement of the squad for the England tour.
With no ODIs scheduled for India in the near future, their appearances in the national colours have become doubtful. The recent reports suggest that both Kohli and Rohit may retire from the 50-over format altogether and might not feature in the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Meanwhile, there have been rumours that the duo has been told to participate in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, set to begin on December 24, 2025. Here, let us take a look back at when Kohli and Rohit last featured in this prestigious one-day domestic tournament.
When Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma last played Vijay Hazare Trophy
Virat Kohli — 2010
Virat Kohli last played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on February 18, 2010, in a match held at Gurgaon. He captained Delhi and faced Services in this encounter. Delhi posted a formidable total of 311 runs in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to Mithun Manhas’ brilliant 148 and Rajat Bhatia’s handy 56. Kohli contributed a quick 16 runs off just eight balls but did not have a major impact with the bat.
Delhi dominated the match and won convincingly by 113 runs, bowling out Services for 198. Kohli also bowled an over in this match, where Pravesh Chikara was the leading wicket-taker with four scalps. Should Kohli return for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, it would surely excite the young players eager to share the field with a legend, while the fans will certainly be in for a treat.
Rohit Sharma — 2018
Rohit Sharma’s last Vijay Hazare Trophy appearance came in 2018 during the semi-final between Mumbai and Hyderabad at Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Hyderabad posted 246 runs, highlighted by Rohit Rayudu’s unbeaten 121. For Mumbai, Tushar Deshpande took three wickets. Rohit opened the innings alongside Prithvi Shaw, and managed 17 runs off 24 balls before being bowled by Mehdi Hassan.
Despite his modest contribution, Mumbai chased down the target comfortably, with Shaw scoring 61 and Shreyas Iyer unbeaten on 55, sealing an eight-wicket victory. Mumbai further went on to win the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy final against Delhi. If Rohit returns for this year’s tournament, it will generate immense excitement among fans and players too.
