After the 2023 Women’s Premier League auction, excitement for the league is incessantly building up, giving good signs to BCCI and the teams of its success. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also announced the WPL schedule for the inaugural 2023 season. Now, with this news, league buffs are thrilled about the tournament, while, the franchises are looking forward to living up to the expectations of their fans.

At the player auction, it was witnessed that many Indian cricketers bagged incredible deals with many of them making it to the elite league of expensive players. After grabbing enormous sums at the auction, these players would be eager to live up to it in the tournament to help their teams lift the prestigious WPL trophy on March 26, 2023, at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

After a stupendous show in the recently concluded World T20, Indian fans would be eager to see their favourite stars take the field in their respective franchise colours. In the batting domain too, many of these players will have a lot on them to take care of. As we move closer to the tournament, we take a look at five such Indian batters who could have the most impactful outing for their teams.

Here are five Indian batters who deserve to be watched out for in the upcoming WPL tournament:

Shafali Verma has become a colossal figure in international cricket at a very young age. With her incredible batting skills, she has won a number of games for India. Back in September 2019, Verma made her international debut and cemented her place in the national team on account of her swashbuckling performances.

In T20 Internationals (T20Is), she has accumulated 1,333 runs with five fifties in 56 matches, at a remarkable strike rate of 132.11. Going by her international experience and impressive numbers, Delhi Capitals (DC) signed her for a hefty amount of INR 2 crore. The franchise also engaged in a bidding battle with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to reserve her services for the upcoming tournament.

The youngster will now be a vital cog for DC as she will be assigned the role of an opener to deliver fine starts to the team. In the recently concluded 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, she looked out of rhythm scoring only 102 runs in five matches, at a strike rate of 108.51. However, noticing her track record, it could be said that she could emerge as one of the best batters in the forthcoming competition.
