The 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) Auction concluded in Mumbai on Saturday, December 9, with 30 out of the 165 registered being sold to the five teams. Out of the 165 players, 104 were Indian talents, and the remaining 61 were overseas players including 15 players from associate nations. The auction featured a mix of fresh and veteran players, resulting in a dynamic combination for each side. It seemed like a great presentation, introducing the fantastic lineup for the forthcoming season and emphasizing the teams' dedication to not only playing but also growing. Notably, Annabel Sutherland and Kashvee Gautam were the top buys of the day, being sold to the Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants respectively for Rs. 2 crores. Litchfield scored 309 runs in 15 matches for her WBBL team Sydney Thunder, at an average of 28.09 and a strike rate of 130.37. Previously in the Women's Hundred, she was the leading run-scorer for Northern Superchargers, with 297 runs from 10 appearances. Litchfield, the first player to be sold, received bids from Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz, but the former won with a Rs 1 crore bid. 2. Danni Wyatt Danni Wyatt. She was sold to UP Warriorz for her base price of ₹30 lakh. This was after she had smashed 75 against India three days earlier in a T20I victory. The 32-year-old has a wealth of experience, having played 151 T20Is, scoring 2602 runs with 2 centuries and 13 fifties at an average of 127.23. 3. Vrinda Dinesh Vrinda Dinesh (Photo Source: Twitter) Vrinda Dinesh, a top-order batter, has been one of the more consistent players on the Indian domestic circuit recently. She scored 211 runs in eight matches for Karnataka in the Women's Senior T20 Trophy, with an average of 35.17 and an astounding strike rate of 154.01. She continued her winning ways in the Women's Senior One Day Trophy. In six matches, he scored 348 runs, including two centuries and as many half-centuries. The two clubs that were initially bidding for the 22-year-old batter were Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants until UP Warriorz stole the show with a Rs 1.30 crore price. 4. Subha Satheesh Shubha Satheesh and Jemimah Rodrigues. The 24-year-old Shubha struck 13 fours in her 69-run knock from 76 balls on Thursday to join the list of those who have made fifties on Test debut for India. She will now have a chance to impress in the shortest format, having found a team in Royal Challengers Bangalore for WPL 2024. 5. Veda Krishnamurthy Veda Krishnamurthy. The 31-year-old has played 76 T20Is for India, making 875 runs with a best of 57*. She has done well as a batter who holds the fort from one end in the middle order. Besides, she is also capable of hitting some big shots as and when needed. 6. Mannat Kashyap Mannat Kashyap. She was part of India’s victorious women's Under-19 World Cup winning squad in February. While she was not an immediate starter, she made an impression in her debut appearance, scoring four runs against Scotland. Her nine wickets in six games were India's second-best total. Later that year, she was instrumental in India's 127-run defence in the ACC Emerging final, going 3 for 20. Kashyap became a part of Gujarat Giants Women and will hopefully get to showcase her talent during WPL 2024 in the coming times ahead. 7. Annabel Sutherland Annabel Sutherland. She scored 288 runs and took 23 wickets in 14 matches for Melbourne Stars in the recently finished Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), demonstrating her ability in both parts of the game. Gujarat Giants' choice not to keep Annabel Sutherland for barely Rs 70 lakh backfired, as the Australian all-rounder will now be seen wearing the Delhi Capitals jersey, who paid Rs 2 crore to recruit her. 8. Kashvee Gautam Kashvee Gautam. (Photo Source: Twitter) Kashvee Gautam, who plays for Chandigarh, was one of the best performers in the Women's Senior T20 Trophy earlier this year, taking 12 wickets in seven matches at an economy rate of only 4.14 runs per over. She was also a capable batter, scoring 99 runs in that competition. With hopes of youthful Kashvee Gautam receiving interest from numerous teams, few would have imagined a Rs 2 crore price for the 20-year-old all-rounder. But that is what Gujarat Giants had to pay to obtain her services. 9. Ekta Bisht Ekta Bisht (Photo Source: Twitter) One of the most experienced T20I cricketers in India, Ekta Bisht has played 42 matches for India. However, her performance that brought her limelight was the 2023 Women’s Senior T20 Trophy, where she scalped 15 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 12.06. Despite being 37 years old, she will be representing Smriti Mandhana’s Royal Challengers Bangalore Women in WPL 2024.. 10. Shabnim Ismail Shabnim Ismail. (Photo Source: JioCinema) South African pacer Shabnim Ismail has all the experience in the world, having played 113 T20I matches and taking 123 wickets at an average of 18.62 and an economy rate of 5.77 runs per over. Ismail had a respectable WBBL 2023 season, taking 13 wickets in 14 matches for the Hobart Hurricanes. She was also the most economical bowler for her squad, surrendering only 6.22 runs per over. Mumbai Indians Women outbid RCB to acquire Ismail for Rs 1.20 crore. 11. Kate Cross Kate Cross (Photo Source: Twitter) Kate Cross was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹ 30 lakh. The 32-year-old pacer has only played 16 T20Is for England, taking 11 wickets. But in 59 ODIs, Cross has 79 wickets to her name. Given that RCB let go of one of their premier bowlers before the auction, she is expected to lead RCB's bowling attack, bringing a wealth of experience and skill to the club.
