The 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) concluded with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registering an eight-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) and lifting the trophy. RCB all-rounder Ellyse Perry broke into record books as the player to win the distinguished Orange Cap. The RCB veteran hit the headlines for her scintillating performances and got rewarded for her heroics but along with the Aussie, some young names took advantage of the massive T20 platform and showcased their prowess. Noting some incredible performances from youngsters, let’s discuss five players who have become the talk of the town following the 2024 WPL edition. Here are five youngsters who performed exceptionally in the 2024 WPL: 5. Shreyanka Patil Shreyanka Patil. She took 13 wickets in eight matches at an economy of 7.30 and ended up as the Purple Cap winner. Against DC in the final, she registered 4/12 figures in her 3.3-over spell and recorded her best bowling figures. The 21-year-old was seen in excellent touch in the playoffs round as well. She chipped in with 2/16 figures in her team’s five-run win against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. RCB fans will always remember Perry’s remarkable performance but Patil’s bowling contribution to the massive success also shouldn’t be forgotten. 4. Jemimah Rodrigues Jemimah Rodrigues. (Photo Source: WPL) Jemimah Rodrigues did her job efficiently for Delhi, reinforcing the team’s batting unit. Playing nine games, she scored 235 runs at a superb strike rate of 153.59. Against MI at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, she played her best WPL knock (unbeaten 69 off 33) and guided her side to a convincing 29-run win. In the crucial contest against RCB in the league round, DC pocketed a one-run win, and the 23-year-old again stepped up and played a spunky innings of 58 off just 36 balls. Her batting efforts played a vital role in helping Delhi end the journey as runners-up for two consecutive seasons. 3. Richa Ghosh Richa Ghosh ( Photo Source: X / Twitter ) Richa Ghosh delivered impactful numbers to RCB with her bat. Riding on her exceptional innings, Bangalore won some crucial games in the competition. She held her nerves in the must-win match against MI at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and stitched a 76-run partnership with Ellyse Perry to help her side chase down 114. As a finisher, her performance deserves appreciation as she guided her team to a couple of victories in the league round, with her match-concluding potential. Talking about the stumper-batter's overall numbers, she amassed 257 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 141.98. 2. Shafali Verma Shafali Verma ( Photo source : X / twitter ) Shafali Verma played an instrumental role in helping Delhi reach the final for two consecutive seasons. She notched up 309 runs in nine matches of the competition, at a breathtaking strike rate of 156.85. Along with her in-form skipper Meg Lanning, she delivered sensational starts to the side consistently as an opener. In Delhi’s initial games, Verma was the one who looked more attacking than her captain. Following the failure in the opening match, she hit two consecutive fifties in her team’s one-sided wins. The 20-year-old was also the highest run-scorer for Delhi in the final with her 44-run knock that came in just 27 deliveries. 1. Her economical and wicket-taking spells made opponents’ job difficult. After the loss against MI in the opening game, she stepped up for DC and bowled an extraordinary spell against UP Warriorz. Along with Marizanne Kapp, the off-spinner looked disciplined and folded Warriorz on just 119. Delhi thumped UP by nine wickets and Yadav became the highest wicket-taker in the match, clinching 4/20 figures. The 23-year-old appeared in nine contests for DC and grabbed 10 wickets at a thrifty economy of 7.48.
