There will always be debate regarding whether Virat Kohli is the finest batsman India has ever produced, or should that tag be kept safe and secure with Sachin Tendulkar. However, scoring 32 ODI tons and having an average more than 50 in all three formats of the game makes him special, a step ahead of the rest of his lot.

Another aspect that keeps him ahead of the rest of his lot is his fitness. By the looks of it, any Indian loyalist would say that their captain fantastic would have mastered any sport that he featured in. The 29-year-old cricketer has now revealed that after cricket, badminton is the sport which he liked to play the most.

During an interview with CNN-News18, the owner of over 9000 ODI runs was asked to name the sport which he likes to play apart from the game he masters in. “Probably badminton. My closest friend was a state level badminton player. So, I used to compete with him and got to learn a lot about the sport,” the Indian skipper replied.

On being asked about whether there is a possibility of seeing him in the badminton court alongside the best players of the country like PV Sindhu or Saina Nehwal, the lad from Delhi said: “Yes, why not. Those are amazing players. The whole idea is to motivate people to come out and play.”

Kohli’s advice to the youngsters: Come out and play

Nowadays, a child hooked to his smartphone or whatever electronic gadget he or she possesses is a common sight. With the advent of social media, the physical activities of a child have crippled. Kohli wants the younger generations, who will be the flag-bearer of the nation in whatever field they are in, to keep their electronic devices aside and come out in the open.

“I am not asking them to play cricket but maybe learn a particular sport professionally. It is a basic necessity from the physical and mental health point of view of a child. These days technology has taken over people’s daily lives and they are not physically active, and that’s why health concerns are cropping up on a daily basis. We must try and create as much awareness about that,” the owner of 17  Test tons commented.
