Former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar received birthday wishes from the cricket fraternity on his special day. Agarkar turned 40 on December 4 this year. The former Mumbai cricketer is regarded as one of the finest fast bowlers to have played for the country. He has also been associated with the IPL franchises Delhi Daredevils and the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Ajit Agarkar came in to the Indian side as a young fast bowler who bowled immaculate line and lengths. He made his international debut back in the year 1998 and soon became a regular part of the Indian side. He was the quickest to reach 50 wickets in ODIs at that time.
Some pundits had started to tip him as the next Kapil Dev of the Indian team. Many statisticians would argue that Agarkar was not as fluent with the bat as people refer him to be. They could argue that there was a time when he had registered 7 consecutive ducks against Australia. However, the numbers were there to improve. Agarkar has a 21-ball fifty to his name in ODI cricket – a special knock he had played against Zimbabwe.
Also, Ajit Agarkar has a Test century at Lord’s – a feat that even Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar could not overhaul. Agarkar served the Indian team for almost a decade before playing his final international game in 2007 in the ICC World T20. In the 191 ODIs that he played for India, he scalped 288 wickets with a best of 6/42.
In the Test matches, he played 26 matches and returned with 58 wickets to his name with a best of 6/41. He remains to be one of the finest players to have played for the national side. No wonder why he is so famous among his colleagues of the cricket fraternity.
Here is how the cricket fraternity wished Ajit Agarkar on his 40th birthday:
