Cricket Germany mourns ousting from FIFA World Cup by taking a jibe at the ICC

The Germany Cricket team is perhaps one of the least talked-about cricket teams in the world, as they should be. With the ICC taking cricketing expansion as slowly as ever, it would seem as though they are continuing to await their claim to fame in the wings, so to speak. However, as far as Cricket Germany is concerned, that does not seem to be the biggest problem they have with the International Cricket Council.

Having won the 2014 edition of the FIFA World Cup, the Germans were foremost favourites to win the 2018 Cup as well. However, with losses to both Mexico and subsequently South Korea, it would seem as though Joachim Low and his men have run out of steam. Sticking to a similar squad has also ceased to work as the World Cup Champions’ curse seemed to follow Germany as well, especially after they were eliminated at the Group Stages itself.

Cricket Germany, barring all their tales of woe, went ahead and Tweeted to the FIFA administration seeking the Football World Cup to consist of just the 10 teams as well, in a bid to give the Germans a better chance of reclaiming their football supremacy and title.

The ICC has come under strict criticism following the decision to allow just the 10 teams to play as opposed to the 14 that featured in Australia 2015. This has been viewed by many in and around the cricketing fraternity as a deliberate move by the council to shrink the members’ size in overall cricket. If and when Cricket Germany makes it to the biggest stage or not remains to be seen.
