POTM Jonny Bairstow said:

"We got off to a good start. That was the key. They got off to a good start as well thanks to Sunil. You have to take risks. Sometimes luck will go your way. Some days it won't be your day. Tried to whack it as far as possible. If it is in your area, you had to go. We had a couple of quiet overs when Sunil was bowling as we knew how important he is for them. Shashank Singh is a special player. The knowledge he has had been amazing. How clean he hit it! Was indeed very special," Bairstow said.

Winning skipper Sam Curran said:

"Very pleasing. Most importantly the win. Cricket is turning into baseball. We have had a few tough weeks. But we hung in there. The way guys train. The confidence and the coaches. The small grounds and the dew. The reviews which might give you an extra ball. We hung in there and managed to chase it down with balls to spare. Pleased for Johnny. What an amazing knock. Shashank Singh has been the find of the tournament for us. Ashutosh as well. Proud of everyone," Curran said.

Losing skipper Shreyas Iyer said:

"I would have (taken 260 at the start of the day). The way the batters batted was tremendous to see, Sunny coming in.. the way Salt batted, they delivered and it was a treat for the eyes. Both the teams played tremendously, one of those games where you go back to the drawing board and see where it went wrong especially not being able to defend 260. We have to sum up the conditions and come up with better ideas. It is brilliant to see him (Narine) go out there and strike the ball, hopefully he keeps continuing with such performances," Iyer said.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in match 42 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Friday, April 26.

Kolkata are in a rich vein of form as they have won five out of their seven matches and are only behind Rajasthan Royals on the points table. KKR also have the best net run rate (NRR) in the ten-team competition. Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings have struggled to play as a unit and the dismal form of some of their more established batters has dented their championship aspirations. They have just won two and lost six out of their eight matches and are on the brink of reaching the stage where every game becomes a do-or-die.

Kolkata have played two high-scoring thrillers in their last couple of games. Against Rajasthan Royals, they failed to defend a 224-run target as Jos Buttler's unbeaten century helped the first-ever IPL champions win off the last ball. However, the Knights bounced back strongly as they defended a 223-run target against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the last game, winning by a solitary run.

There have been quite a few star performers for KKR this season and that is why they find themselves at No. 2 on the points table. Phil Salt has provided some explosive starts at the top and veteran all-rounders Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have been in ominous form with both bat and ball.

Punjab, on the other hand, are coming off four consecutive losses. In their last game at home against Gujarat Titans, the Kings were bowled out for 142 in their 20 overs before the former champions chased it down with three wickets and five balls to spare.

Regular captain Shikhar Dhawan's injury has been a big loss for Punjab and the likes of stand-in captain Sam Curran, and the explosive duo of Rilee Rossouw and Liam Livingstone have failed to get going. A lot rests on how the in-form duo of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma play.

However, they will need support from the other batters, especially those in the top order. There is a possibility of Dhawan returning for this crucial clash. It will be a huge boost for PBKS if this happens. Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, and Kagiso Rabada have been among the wickets and they will look for the batting department to contribute more.

Probable Playing XI of KKR and PBKS:

Kolkata Knight Riders - Sunil Narine, Phil Salt (WK), Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer (C), Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Andre Russell, Mitchell Starc, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy

Punjab Kings - Shikhar Dhawan (C), Prabhsimran Singh, Rilee Rossouw, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Shashank Singh, Ashutosh Sharma, Harpreet Brar, Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada
