MERCY!!!

Ten franchises combined tonight to spend a mind-boggling INR 215.45 crore to collectively buy 77 players in Abu Dhabi. The cash-rich event saw Cameron Green get the highest individual share, closely followed by Matheesha Pathirana. Green also became the most expensive overseas player in IPL history by getting INR 25.20 crore, going past his Australian teammate and ex-KKR pacer Mitchell Starc, who was bought for INR 24.75 crore in 2024.

Meanwhile, CSK spent INR 14.20 crore each on Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma. The duo became the joint-most expensive uncapped players in the history of the marquee T20 tournament.

IPL 2026 mini auction overview

The IPL 2026 mini auction is set to play an important role in guiding team strategies ahead of the new season. Unlike a mega auction, this one is about fine-tuning squads rather than rebuilding them from scratch. The auction will be held on December 16 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, starting at 2:30 PM IST. This will be the third consecutive IPL auction hosted outside India, following Dubai in 2024 and Jeddah in 2025.

Player pool and available slots

A total of 359 players have been shortlisted for the auction pool, comprising 246 Indians and 113 overseas players. The ten franchises will compete to fill a maximum of 77 slots, including 31 overseas spots. As per IPL rules, squads can have up to 25 players, with a maximum of eight overseas cricketers.

All teams together have INR 237.55 crore left to spend. Kolkata Knight Riders are the busiest side with 13 slots available and the biggest purse of INR 64.30 crore. Chennai Super Kings with INR 43.40 crore and Sunrisers Hyderabad, with 25.50 crore.

The player pool is spread across 42 auction sets, divided by role and capped and uncapped categories. There is no marquee set in a mini auction. The maximum base price is INR 2 crore, while the minimum is INR 30 lakh. Big names in the top bracket include Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Wanindu Hasaranga, David Miller, Jonny Bairstow, and Wanindu Hasaranga. Among Indians, only Ravi Bishnoi and Venkatesh Iyer have opted for the INR 2 crore base price.
