Defending champions, KKR, took on RCB in the season opener at the iconic Eden Gardens.
While the likes of DC and GT started off strong, winning four consecutive games and four out of their first five, respectively, sides like CSK and SRH had their share of struggles to get wins under their belt.
The progression of the season saw sides like MI and RCB turning things around by going on fine winning streaks to strengthen their position. Quite a few records were shattered in addition to the emergence of upcoming talents in their first season in the IPL.
Some edge-of-the-seat thrillers went down during the middle phase of the season too. As the group-stage was entering its business end, the race to the playoffs intensified with a complex mix of combinations possible for the teams ending up in the top four.
In the meantime, a gruesome attack in Pahalgam (Jammu & Kashmir) meant there was a whole lot of political uncertainty within the country. Midway through the first innings of the clash between PBKS and DC on Thursday, May 8, a floodlight failure meant that the game was delayed.
However, it soon turned out that the game had been called off due to technical failure. Attacks between India and Pakistan heated up and the tournament was postponed for a week by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
