POTM Mehidy Hasan Miraz said:
"It’s a great moment for me, I’ve done a lot of hard work in the past. Credit to the team management because they believed in me. I was a bit cautious, the captain told me to bowl in the right areas. He told me to be consistent and to focus on my own performance so credit to the captain. I took it ball by ball, didn’t look at the runs. Wicket was turning a bit, I just tried to play straight. I’ve always batted at no.8 so a great moment for me to bat at the top of the order. They tried me at the top of the order in the last few matches and it’s a great moment for me," Miraz said.
Wining skipper Shakib Al Hasan said:
"Very happy with the way we played. We believed if we got a wicket, we could come back in. Wasn't easy for few players, but happy with the way we batted and bowled. We have been practising here. We need to adapt to these things if we want to win. We got three, four fast bowlers, they can change any game. He's been playing very well. Shanto is another one, they always want to do perform well for the team," Shakib mentioned
Losing skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi said:
We had a good start, but we had bad shot selections after that. I think we fought well, but the score wasn't good enough. Looking forward to the next game. Need to learn from our mistakes, need to make sure it doesn't happen again," Shahidi said.

Half-century for Shanto!
Najmul Hussain Shanto hits his 6th ODI half-century. Bangladesh are 148/4. They need nine runs to register their first win in ODI World Cup 2023.
Shakib Al Hasan departs!
The skipper goes for the glory shots but straight to the fielder. Bangladesh are four wickets down. They need 11 runs more.

The 13th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup got underway as New Zealand got the tournament off to an incredible start with a nine-wicket win over England. The action will continue in the cricketing carnival as Bangladesh and Afghanistan will take on each other on Saturday, October 07 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.
Bangladesh are coming into the fixture having lost their warm-up match vs England by seven wickets. The Shakib al Hasan-led side, however, managed to win their first warm-up match vs Sri Lanka by chasing down the target of 264 in 42 overs.
On the other hand, Afghanistan are coming into the game having won their last warm-up game vs Sri Lanka by six wickets. Earlier, their first warm-up match vs South Africa got washed out.

Notably, the two teams recently met in the Asia Cup 2023 where Bangladesh emerged victorious by 89 runs. However, earlier in July 2023, Afghanistan beat Bangladesh in their own den as they sealed the three-match ODI series by 2-1.
The two sides have faced each other 15 times in ODIs where Bangladesh has an upper hand having nine wins to their name as compared to Afghanistan’s six wins.
As far as the squads for both teams are concerned, Bangladesh haven’t picked their veteran opener Tamim Iqbal for the marquee event. However, they have the perfect mix of experienced and young talents who can win matches for their team on their own.

On the other hand, Afghanistan have one of the most potent spin attacks in the tournament having the likes of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman in their squad. In the warm-up fixture, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah looked in fine form with the bat which could well be a cause of worry for Bangladesh.
The match promises to be a mouth-watering affair between the two teams as they’ve given tough fights to each other in recent times.
