Cricket South Africa (CSA) is set to host the thrilling auction for SA20 Season 4 on September 9. With 549 players in the pool, only 84 will find a spot across six franchises. Headlining the list is 43-year-old James Anderson, who makes a return to franchise cricket, alongside stars like Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, and Alex Hales.
Notably, each franchise can build a 19-member squad with a maximum of seven overseas players. The teams have already exercised their retention and pre-signing rights, completed at six per side, and announced their wildcard picks, which don’t count against the purse.
This year also sees the end of the rookie draft, but two Under-23 players are mandatory to be picked every squad. Notably, the Right to Match (RTM) card has been introduced, allowing franchises to buy back a released player by matching the final bid at the auction.
The purse stands at R41 million (INR 20.55 crore) per team, with Pretoria Capitals holding the largest kitty at R32.5 million and MI Cape Town the smallest at R11.5 million.
