Aakash Chopra picks India's ideal ODI XI, leaves out Shikhar Dhawan and Suryakumar Yadav

Former Test opener Aakash Chopra has picked his ideal India ODI XI and veteran batter Shikhar Dhawan, as well as the current top-ranked T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav, are the notable omissions on this list. Chopra picked his ODI XI based on the current performances of the players including the just-concluded ODI series against Bangladesh which the Men in Blue lost 1-2.

Meanwhile, the versatile commentator did not hesitate in selecting Ishan Kishan after he scored a match-winning double century in the final game of the series.

"An opener along with Rohit Sharma. Who will that be - I don't know. I think Ishan Kishan is now stealing a march, you cannot drop him after a double hundred. So Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, Kohli at No. 3 and Iyer at No. 4. I will definitely not drop Iyer,” said Aakash Chopra while speaking on his YouTube channel.

"Hardik will come at No. 6 but Rahul will play ahead of SKY (Suryakumar Yadav), so Rahul will play at No. 5, sorry SKY. SKY and Shikhar are both in the squad but are not playing," he added.

Shikhar Dhawan failed to make an impact in the One Day series registering scores of 7, 8, and 3. Yadav, on the other hand, was not a part of this series as he asked for a break. However, the Mumbai cricketer’s ODI records have not been up to the mark so far as he has only managed to score 384 runs averaging 32 in 16 matches.

Talking about the spin department, Aakash Chopra mentioned that he would definitely pick one of the wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal. Even spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar got a special mention. He then added that there will be a call taken on the left-arm spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel depending on their fitness.

"After that, Washington Sundar and then whoever is fit between Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. If Jadeja is fit, then Jaddu. That makes it your two spinners. After that, I will definitely keep one of Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal, and the other in the squad."

The cricketer-turned-cricket pundit concluded his team selection by picking pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj as his frontline pacers. "Jasprit Bumrah will be in my team, Mohammed Siraj will be in my team. So I have three fast-bowling options and three spin-bowling options. This is the kind of XI that I foresee, you should have all bases covered."
