The draft of the upcoming Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 saw many big names join the competition. The tournament will also have franchises from the Indian Premier League. Six teams will compete for the coveted title as the tournament is scheduled to begin on July 13.

The domestic draft for Major League Cricket was held on Sunday, March 19, and each team picked as many as nine US-based players and announced their overseas signings as well.

MI New York, DC Washington Freedom, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and the Texas Franchise (owned by Chennai Super Kings owners) are the six teams that will be going against each other.

Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch and World Cup winner with England Liam Plunkett recently announced their participation in the tournament. Both players will be playing for San Francisco Unicorns.

Following the announcement of Finch’s participation, the 36-year-old took to Twitter to express his joy over joining the franchise. "So excited to be a part of @MLCricket @SFOUnicorns," Finch tweeted.

Finch to captain San Francisco Unicorns

Finch was one of the six overseas players announced in the draft. He was also the first captain to be announced. The 36-year-old will be leading Unicorns and will look to grab the sought-after trophy.

The six-team league would be played in a single round-robin format from July 13 through July 30, 2023. Texas is expected to be the main venue for the tournament, primarily due to the lack of suitable wickets in the other cities.

Despite being from England, Liam Plunkett will be eligible as a domestic player in the tournament as his wife is American. Other overseas players include Quinton De Kock and Mitchell Marsh, who will be representing Seattle Orcas. Whereas, Wanindu Hasaranga and Anrich Nortje were picked by DC Washington Freedom. Marcus Stoinis will also be representing Unicorns alongside Finch and Plunkett.
