Abdur Razzak relinquishes selector's role to contest BCB elections
Abdur Razzak is set to take part in the BCB elections, which are going to be held on October 6.
Former left-arm spinner Abdur Razzaq has relinquished his role as a selector as he wants to contest the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections, which are scheduled to be held on October 6.
Razzak, who was appointed as selector in January 2021, bought the nomination form for the director's poll on Saturday, September 27, as he is looking to represent Khulna Division in the BCB board room.
"I have resigned from the selectors post to join the BCB election," Razzak told Cricbuzz after submitting the nomination paper from category 1.
25 directors (12 from clubs, 10 from Division and District, along with two nominated by NSC and one from category three, that is, representatives of other organisations) will have the power to elect the president.
The Election Commission of BCB announced the final voter list of 191 councillors on Friday for the forthcoming board of directors' polls.
The eventual list comprises councillors from 15 Dhaka-based clubs that were excluded from the draft list, revealed on September 23, as they were under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for irregularities.
The election commissioner also said that the councillorship of the 15 clubs was granted as they had not yet been convicted by the ACC.
In addition, the councillorships of five districts -- Sylhet, Bogura, Pabna, Sirajganj, and Naogaon -- were also granted. However, the councillorship for Narsingdi district remained vacant.
The EC also kept ex-BCB president Faruque Ahmed's councillorship as it was content with his explanation for the late submission.
On September 25, the EC conducted hearings on 38 objections submitted regarding the draft voter list at the BCB office. BCB began to distribute the nomination forms for the board of directors election on Saturday at the BCB office between 10:00 am-5:00 pm, while the candidates are required to submit their forms on the following day (September 28).
Razzak is a popular former cricketer in Bangladesh, having represented the national team in 13 Tests, 153 ODIs, and 34 T20Is. He took 28, 207, and 43 wickets across the three formats. The 43-year-old played for the Tigers from 2004 to 2018. He also has an ODI half-century to his name.
Bangladesh recently crashed out of the 2025 Asia Cup after losing to India and Pakistan in the Super-Four stage of the tournament. They will take confidence, however, from their impressive wins against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka earlier in the campaign.
