Alexa Stonehouse makes permanent move from Surrey to Warwickshire

Alexa Stonehouse has completed a permanent transfer from Surrey to Warwickshire, with Surrey granting her an early release from her existing contract to facilitate the move. The 21-year-old left-arm seamer has agreed a two-year deal that runs through the 2027 and 2028 seasons, having spent the entirety of the 2026 campaign on loan at Edgbaston.

Stonehouse developed through South East Stars before committing to Surrey ahead of the 2025 season. She represented England at the 2023 ICC Under-19 T20 World Cup, claiming six wickets at an average of 11.33, and has since featured consistently across England A teams and squads. During the summer of 2026, she received a senior England ODI call-up as cover following an injury to Issy Wong.

How did Stonehouse perform during her loan spell at Warwickshire?

Across 17 appearances in the 2026 season, Stonehouse took 16 wickets for Warwickshire in total. Her most telling contributions came in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, where she accounted for 13 of those dismissals, demonstrating a particular aptitude for the 50-over format. That sustained output across the season was central to Warwickshire's decision to pursue a permanent arrangement.

Before the loan move to Edgbaston, Stonehouse had turned out 19 times for Surrey during 2025, contributing to the county's triumph in the inaugural Vitality Blast title. Her Under-19 World Cup record had already signalled her potential, and the 2026 loan season gave that promise a clear county platform.

"Alexa has been a breath of fresh air since joining on loan at the start of this season, so to make the move a permanent one is great news for us. While only 21, she has a wealth of experience already, and we've seen first-hand throughout 2026 how important that can be for us in the coming years," Warwickshire Women head coach, Ali Maiden said as quoted by Cricinfo.

The two-year contract at Warwickshire gives Stonehouse a stable county base from which to continue her development at the highest level. Having already earned a senior England ODI call-up in 2026 and maintained a consistent presence in England A setups, the move to Edgbaston on a permanent footing strengthens her position ahead of what are likely to be important years for the women's game in England.

After coming through at South East Stars, Stonehouse signed for Surrey ahead of the 2025 season. She was part of the England squad at the 2023 U19 World Cup and has since played for England A.
