Cricket Australia was hit with a big blow as 30-year-old Ashton Agar recently injured himself. The slow left-arm orthodox bowler is experiencing a recurrence of a calf injury that put him out of contention for selection at the ODI World Cup 2023, and now he is doubtful to play for Australia against India in their five-match T20I series as well.
Agar tore his calf during the pre-season while training with Western Australia, which ruled him out of the T20I series against South Africa in late August. Furthermore, he was back in action against South Africa in September but had to leave early for the birth of his child.
Ruled out of the World Cup, Agar was replaced by ace batter Marnus Labuschagne and was gearing up for a return at the Marsh Cup and the upcoming series against India in November, but the setback will have put yet another dent in his plans.
Currently, no date for his return has been set yet. "Given Agar is a nationally contracted player, WA Cricket will work closely with Cricket Australia to determine his return to play," a WACA statement said.
