Yuvraj Singh was in attendance at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium to watch the thrilling Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan on Sunday, September 28.
The legendary former India all-rounder was seen following all the action between the arch-rivals meticulously, with continental supremacy on the line. However, he would be disappointed with how Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, two cricketers he has mentored, got out in the second innings.
While Abhishek, the leading run-scorer in the tournament, got out in the second over for five, Shubman departed in the fourth over for 12. Both batters were dismissed by Faheem Ashraf, with Haris Rauf taking the catches.
This was the first time in the tournament that Abhishek got out for a single-digit score. On the other hand, Shubman disappointed yet again with the bat. The vice-captain ended the tournament without a half-century to his name.
Apart from Abhishek and Shubman, captain Suryakumar Yadav was also dismissed inside the powerplay as India were chasing down a 147-run target. However, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma forged a gritty partnership for the fourth wicket to resurrect the ship.
After Samson was dismissed for a 21-ball 24, the onus was on Tilak to anchor the innings and take India over the line. He notched up his first half-century in the tournament and got great support from Shivam Dube.
Watch: Gill bites the dust in final, Faheem roars in delight
The Men in Blue have great depth in the batting department, with Rinku Singh and Axar Patel expected to come in at No. 7 and 8, respectively. However, Indian fans will want Tilak and Dube to take them to victory. India are chasing a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title. On the other hand, Pakistan have won two Asia Cups in the past but never lifted the title when the tournament has been played in the T20 format.
