AUS vs SA: Mitchell Starc in doubt for Sydney Test after finger injury

After injuring his finger in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, ace pacer Mitchell Starc is in major doubt for the third and final Test of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The 32-year-old dislocated the tip of his bowling arm's middle finger while attempting a catch at long-on on the opening day at MCG.

Following the incident Starc immediately left for treatment and as per reports, he even had a brief session in the nets. As things stand, Starc has been cleared to continue playing but it is highly unlikely that the southpaw will bowl further in the match. Cricket Australia in a statement said that his "condition will be reassessed at the completion of the match".

If Starc indeed misses out the Sydney Test, either Josh Hazlewood or Lance Morris are lilely to get a green signal. Both the bowlers were seen hitting the nets on the second day of the Test. The team management can also include a specialist spinner given that SCG has been a spin conducive venue.

David Warner show resumes at MCG

After struggling for quite some time, David Warner was one on the list of probable to get dropped from the Test squad. However, the southpaw shut the critics by hitting a magnificent double century at the MCG on the Boxing Day Test.

Playing his 100th Test match, the 36-year-old hit a Test ton after almost three years and celebrated in a grand fashion. Unfortunately, the opener injured himself while celebrating and had to leave the field to recover. Warner also crossed the 8000-run mark in Test cricket, becoming just the eighth Australian to achieve the feat.
