The Australia Women's cricket team is looking forward to some last-minute preparations to their cricket before the all-important ICC Women's T20 World Cup scheduled to begin from February 10, 2023, in South Africa.
The Australian women's team is scheduled to play the Indian women's team (which is currently in South Africa playing a tri-series) and Ireland, just days before they head into the marquee event.
Warm-up games will be important: Meg Lanning speaks on World Cup preparations
"(The warm-ups will) be really important and some training sessions as well, just adjusting to the conditions and what the wickets are doing because a lot of us haven't actually played over there before," Australia skipper Meg Lanning said while addressing reporters after the final match against Pakistan got washed out as quoted by cricket.com.au.
Lanning said in her statements that Australia had already started their World Cup preparations and were more than ready to defend their T20 title. However, she emphasised that all the warm-up games before the actual matches in South Africa will be of utmost importance because the Protea-conditions are not very well-known to the Aussies and they need to get a solid hang of the South African conditions.
Also, the 30-year-old added that the warm-up games especially against India will be the most significant, as though the Aussies may be the mightiest women's team, they know very well that India are the subcontinental giants and possess the power and capability to put up a tough fight anytime. Also, the Indian women's team is already getting a good hang of the South African conditions, getting to play a tri-series and practice on Protean soil, while on the other hand, the Aussies are yet to gain some knowledge about it.
"(The team is) nicely placed, I feel like we've been able to work on some different roles for different players, and where that might fit within the side and we've got some really good options and depth in a lot of areas. So that is something that we've done really well over the past few years in particular, adjusting really quickly to the conditions and what's required," she signed off.
