BAN vs SL: Hamstring injury forces Dilshan Madushanka's ouster from remaining fixtures

Sri Lanka and their injury woes continue to be a never-ending affair. They were grappling with injury concerns during the World Cup 2023, and the bad luck does not seem to let go of them as Dilshan Madushanka is the latest entrant to the list. Ahead of the impending final ODI against Bangladesh, Madushanka has been ruled out after sustaining a hamstring injury.
In the second ODI against Bangladesh, the pacer was looking in fine rhythm. He had claimed two wickets by giving away just 30 runs in 6.4 overs. His onslaught was palpable, as he dismissed Litton Das in the very first over and also sent Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto packing shortly after the powerplay.
However, amidst his seventh over, Madushanka felt pulling up a muscle and walked out of the field owing to discomfort. After that, he failed to take the field as Sri Lanka managed to thwart Bangladesh by three wickets. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has issued a statement regarding the pacer’s injury and also iterated that his tour cedes in between due to the mishap.
“Dilshan Madushanka will not further take part in the ongoing tour as the bowler will return to start rehabilitation work after suffering an injury during the 2nd ODI. Madushanka, who left the field during the second ODI while bowling, has suffered a left hamstring injury, as confirmed by an MRI scan performed on the player,” the statement read.
Sri Lanka manage to stay alive in the series with emphatic win
After batting first, Bangladesh, with the help of Towhid Hridoy’s 96, posted a fighting total of 286 runs. While chasing, Sri Lanka endured early trouble as their top order collapsed within the 50-run mark. Pathum Nissanka (114 off 113) and Charith Asalanka (91 off 93) came to the rescue, as they stitched a crucial 185-run partnership, bringing the Lankans back in the game. The series is poised at 1-1, with the final ODI to be played on March 18.
