Bengal cricketer Priyajit Ghosh tragically passes away at 22 during gym session

A heartbreaking incident has shocked the cricket fraternity on Friday, August 1, as Bengal cricketer Priyajit Ghosh lost his life during a gym session. The promising star suffered a cardiac arrest and could not be resuscitated. The unfortunate news left his friends, relatives, and teammates in mourning.

Priyajit lived in Bolpur, which is a part of the Birbhum district. He had big dreams, aspiring to play for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy and eventually knock on the national team's door. Cricket was more than just a sport to him; it was a form of meditation.

He showcased his talent from a very young age and notably became the highest run-scorer in the inter-district under-16 cricket tournament organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in the 2018-19 season. He was even honoured by the CAB, and that medal still holds a special place in his trophy cabinet.

On Friday, Priyajit went to a gym in the Mission Compound area of Bolpur to stay fit, ahead of the upcoming season. Hitting the gym, lifting weights, and improving his cardio game were regular practices for him, as he took fitness very seriously. He would have had his eyes on finding a spot in the Bengal team in the months to come, and he was working hard in the off-season to get into his best shape. Tragically, while sweating during his workout, he suddenly fell ill, and soon after this, he succumbed to a cardiac arrest.

When he was taken to a local medical facility, doctors declared that he had passed away. His untimely demise has jolted the cricket community. Priyajit leaves behind his mother and father. His close ones are still coming to terms with the appalling piece of news that has changed their lives forever.

Priyajit's passing reminds everyone how unpredictable life is. This is a massive loss, not just for the Ghosh household but also for the beautiful sport.
