'Beta, now its time' - Virat Kohli's reply to Harbhajan Singh's daughter's message post Test retirement goes viral
Kohli recently unexpectedly called time on his Test career.
Former Indian cricketer, Harbhajan Singh, recently disclosed his daughter Hinaya's conversation with ace Indian batter, Virat Kohli, after the 36-year-old announced his decision to take retirement from Test cricket. Kohli shocked the cricketing world by hanging up his boots from the longest format of the game on May 12 and Hinaya was in the same state hearing about the retirement news.
Hinaya then requested father Harbhajan to text Virat Kohli on her behalf, to which Kohli gave a very straightforward response that it was now the right time for the latter to call it a day and hang up his boots, saying that the time is right.
"I couldn't understand why Virat Kohli took retirement. My daughter said to me, 'Papa, why did Virat Kohli take retirement? I want to message him'. She wrote to Virat Kohli saying, 'I am Hinaya. Why did you take retirement?' Her heart was affected like that. Virat Kohli replied with a laugh saying, 'Beta, now it's time'," shared Harbhajan, as quoted by The Times of India.
Kohli retired from Test cricket after registering 9,230 runs in 210 innings at an average of 46.85. His decision to depart from Tests came a little over a month prior to India's upcoming five-match Test series of England. India will be without the services of Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The latter announced his retirement from red-ball cricket five days prior to Kohli's revelation.

Karun Nair becomes Kohli's potential red-ball replacement
With Kohli exiting from Test cricket, he will exclusively focus on giving it his all in the 50-over format, keeping the ODI World Cup in 2027 in mind. He had previously announced his retirement from T20Is after the Men in Blue clinched the T20 World Cup last year, where Kohli was also the Player of the Match in the finals against South Africa.
India are scheduled to commence their Test series against England on June 20. It will be intriguing to witness as to how they cope up in English conditions without the presence of one of their all-time greats in a format he relished the most. Meanwhile, Karun Nair has been called up by the selectors to be one of the contenders to be batting at Kohli's position in the batting order.
