Blast at cricket ground in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa kills one, several injured
The blast occurred at Kausar Cricket Ground in Khar tehsil of Bajaur district.
In a horrific incident in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, a blast at the Kausar Cricket Ground, Khar, has led to the killing of at least one, while countless were left injured. According to reports, the blast took place at sometime around in the evening of Saturday, September 6. Among the injured were a police constable and a civilian named Najeeb Khan, while a vehicle parked nearby also took the blow.
The local district's police officials confirmed that the blast was a pre-planned and a targeted act, done deliberately to spread fear among the locals. However, police's swift actions helped the injured people being taken to the hospital(s) headquartered in Khar. Bajaur District public relations officer Israr Khan elaborated that the terrorists tried to launch another attack at the spot, but could not succeed, as they missed hitting their target.
The Bajaur District Police Officer Waqas Rafique notified that the act of terrorism was carried out using an improvised explosive device (IED). “It appears to be a targeted attack,” Rafique told as quoted by Moneycontrol.
Such horrific acts have historically led to Pakistan losing the status of hosting any international matches. The infamous terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus during their tour to the country in 2009. For a long time after, Pakistan had to host its home games in the United Arab Emirates, which was after several major cricketing nations decided not to travel to a country where terrorist activities are frequent.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has, however, regained the trust of countries and even hosted multinational events like the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Next up, the Men in Green will also be hosting South Africa for a multi-format series, starting October 16. The PCB and security personnel will be keeping their eyes and ears open to avoid any security threat to the visiting team.
