Chris Broad set to officiate 350th ODI game as referee

The first ODI betwen England and New Zealand will be Chris Broad's 350th game.

Former English batter and one of the renowned members of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, Chris Broad is all set to officiate his 350th men’s ODI match as the referee. He will officiate in the first ODI between England and New Zealand in their multi-format series.

Broad joined the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees in 2003 and made his ODI debut as an official in 2004. Furthermore, he was also the referee at the ICC World Cups in 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019. He has also featured in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2004, 2013, and 2017.

Speaking of his playing career, Broad featured for England as an opening batter. He played 25 Test matches and 34 ODIs for England and scored 1661 and 1361 runs in the two formats, respectively.

Ahead of his 350th men’s ODI that he will be officiating, Sean Easey, ICC Manager of Umpires and Referees, came forward to congratulate Broad on the monumental achievement. Easey opined that Broad carries with him a vast amount of experience, and his resilience over the years has enabled him to reach such a stage in his brilliant career as an official.

"Chris is one of the most senior members of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, who has officiated in numerous high-profile series in different parts of the world. His resilience and cricket experience have stood him in good stead over the years. On behalf of the ICC, I would like to congratulate Chris on reaching such a significant milestone and wish him all the best for his upcoming assignments," Easey was quoted as saying by the ICC.
