Even though Virat Kohli and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were in tremendous form in the last match against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, India’s overall performance was quite disappointing. With two back-to-back wins in the first two games, the Men in Blue were the hot favourites to win their eighth title in history but after their game against Sri Lanka, a billion dreams were shattered.
After being knocked out of the Asia Cup, team India is now eyeing their second T20 World Cup title. The tournament will be played in October-November in Australia. Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer spoke about the things India should be happy and sad about before the World Cup.
“Virat Kohli getting runs was a very positive thing. His return back to form is very important for Indian cricket going forward. Other than that, there’s Bhuvi. No one can question his skills with the new ball but other than that there were a lot of mistakes," said Jaffer on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti' on CricTracker.
"Even after a huge win (against Afghanistan), the Asia Cup has been disappointing. Until and unless we are winning, it will always be a disappointing campaign. We dominate in the bilateral series but for the T20 World Cup, we need to check the right combination, right team selection and clarity. That is going to be very, very important." he added.
Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar star as India beat Afghanistan by 101 runs
Kohli was showing glimpses of his form in the last few matches but with his century against Afghanistan, he has now sent a statement to all. Not just Kohli, India was worried about Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s form as well but the pacer was at his absolute best against Afghanistan in Dubai.
In his four overs, Bhuvneshwar gave away just four runs and picked five wickets. He was heavily criticised for his poor bowling in the death overs against Pakistan and Sri Lanka but against Afghanistan, he showed his strength with the new ball. However, it was Kohli who was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock off 122* off just 61.
