A week after being left out of New Zealand’s T20I squad for the tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa, Devon Conway has been recalled as a replacement for the injured Finn Allen. Allen suffered a foot injury while playing for the San Francisco Unicorns in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season.

Although Conway has not featured in a T20I for over a year, he has stayed active in franchise cricket. Most recently, he impressed for the Texas Super Kings in the MLC, scoring 135 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 127.35.

"We're really gutted for Finn. I was looking forward to working with him and to see him continue his form from the MLC but unfortunately injuries happen. We're lucky to be able to call on someone of Devon's quality to replace Finn,” said New Zealand head coach Rob Walter as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Other additions to the squad include batters Mitchell Hay and Tim Robinson, along with allrounder James Neesham. The trio will provide additional cover for Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra, who are all set to feature in the MLC final on Sunday.

"We knew there'd be a possibility that a handful of players could be involved in the MLC final, so we're bringing in Mitch, Jimmy and Tim as possible replacements,” said Walter.

The Kiwis will be led by allrounder Mitchell Santner as Walter begins his tenure as the new head coach, supported by Luke Ronchi, Jacob Oram, and James Foster on the coaching staff. The team will be without several key players, including Kane Williamson, who has made himself unavailable for the tour.

Williamson is currently playing for Middlesex in England’s county circuit. Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been rested as part of his workload management. Kyle Jamieson has opted out of the tour as he awaits the birth of his child, while Ben Sears is sidelined with a side strain.

New Zealand will open their campaign on Wednesday against South Africa. The tournament features a double round-robin format, where each team plays the other twice, with the top two teams advancing to the final on July 26. All matches will be held at the Harare Sports Club.
