[WATCH] 'Don't know I'm coming for the next game' - MS Dhoni's cheeky response to Danny Morrison on 'comeback' question
Morrison cheekily asked Dhoni whether he would be returning next year. With his wit, the veteran cheekiy responded, ‘I don’t know I'm coming for the next game’.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took on Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 30. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first. Both teams came into the game with unchanged playing eleven.
During the toss, Danny Morrison was on the pitch alongside CSK skipper MS Dhoni. As the noise from the crowd echoed across the stadium, Morrison cheekily asked Dhoni whether he would be returning next year. With his wit, the veteran cheekiy responded, ‘I don’t know I'm coming for the next game’. While it is unlikely that Dhoni will announce retirement in the middle of the season, his remark raises a concern as a loss against Punjab Kings will officially knock out CSK from the tournament.
Meanwhile, the CSK skipper also acknowledged the significance of home advantage but admitted that the team has not performed up to expectations at their home ground. The veteran stated that when only one or two players are out of form, and so the team changes are usually minimal. He also emphasised the need to reassess and work on finding the ideal batting positions for the players.
"I don't know I'm coming for the next game (laughs)," said Dhoni at the toss. "One of the things is the pride factor. Majority of the games you play at home. Home advantage is very important which we haven't been able to capitalise on. Same team. We've been a side where we don't make a lot of changes. But this season we've made a lot of changes. Reason is simple. If most of your players are doing well, then you chop and change 1-2 players. But this season it hasn't worked for us. It's also the first season after a fresh auction. So you have something in mind but you have to see where a batter is suited better.
Meanwhile, the PBKS skipper stated that the team will focus on the process and aim to deliver a strong performance in their match against CSK. He also confirmed that Glenn Maxwell has sustained a fractured finger, and added that the team has yet to decide on a replacement for the Australian all-rounder.
