DPL 2025 auction: Virender Sehwag's son Vedant goes unsold, Aaryavir bags INR 8 lakh deal
Aaryavir Sehwag was bagged by Central Delhi Kings ahead of the DPL 2025.
The Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 is all set to kick off in August. Ahead of the season, the player auction took place on Sunday, July 6, where one of the most trending moments was the contrasting fortunes of cricket legend Virender Sehwag’s two sons.
Vedant Sehwag, the 14-year-old off-spinner, went unsold despite his promising performances in the DDCA T20 Cricket Tournament 2024–25. Vedant had attracted attention with his impressive stint for the Delhi Under-16 side in the Vijay Merchant Trophy, where he claimed 24 wickets in just five matches. His father, a legendary India cricketer, had publicly praised his efforts, calling it a proud moment. Many believed a franchise would take a chance on the youngster, that was not meant to be this year, unfortunately.
In contrast, Vedant's elder brother, Aaryavir, continued to make headlines in Delhi’s U-19 circuit with his consistent batting displays. He recently made waves by scoring 297 runs against Meghalaya, narrowly missing out on surpassing his father’s highest Test score of 319. Aaryavir remarked that he missed a Ferrari by falling short of his father's milestone.
The DPL auction saw a fierce bidding war for the 19-year-old opener, with teams like West Delhi Lions and South Delhi Superstarz in contention. Eventually, it was the Central Delhi Kings who secured Aaryavir's services for a whopping INR 8 lakh, an impressive 167% rise from his base price of 3 lakh.
DPL Auction: Tyagi sold for 19 lakh, Suyash for 15 lakh
The former cricketer, who scored 38 centuries for India across formats in his 14-year-long career, was present at the auction, sharing words of encouragement with young cricketers and expressing his hopes of watching his sons compete in the DPL.
Meanwhile, the Outer Delhi Warriors made major headlines by announcing the signings of Indian spinner Suyash Sharma and Delhi cricket stalwart Harsh Tyagi. The cricketer, who represented East Delhi Riderz last season, will bring experience to the Warriors’ setup for the upcoming 2025 season of the tournament organized by Delhi & District Cricket Association. Additionally, Priyansh Arya, already declared as a marquee player, adds further strength to their exciting line-up.
