DPL 2025: Rishabh Pant ruled out, Purani Dilli 6 name new captain
In DPL 2024, Pant only featured in the opening clash, scoring 35 off 32 balls.
As the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 is just around the corner, Purani Dilli 6 star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, their marquee player and retained pick for INR 21 lakh, has been ruled out of the tournament due to a fractured metatarsal on his right foot. The injury occurred during the 4th Test against England at Old Trafford, where Pant bravely walked out to bat on Day 2 despite the pain, scoring a half-century. However, the injury now puts him out of action for at least six weeks.
Pant’s absence is a significant setback, both for Purani Dilli 6 and the DPL as a whole. His presence not only added star power but also gave the team a strategic advantage. In DPL 2024, Pant only featured in the opening clash, scoring 35 off 32 balls. Yet, he was expected to take on a bigger role this year, especially with no international series lined up for Team India in August. Despite his early DPL 2024 exit, Purani Dilli 6 put immense faith in Pant for the upcoming edition.
In the southpaw's absence, Purani Dilli 6 have announced Vansh Bedi as their new captain for the 2025 season. Bedi now carries the responsibility of leading a talented unit that reached the semi-finals last year and is looking to hold on to the coveted title this time around. Meanwhile, team owner Akash Nangia is confident of Bedi’s leadership abilities.
The team also announced PUMA as their official jersey sponsor and Radio Mirchi as their official radio partner for Season 2. Purani Dilli 6 will kick off their DPL 2025 campaign on August 5 against Outer Delhi Warriors at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The team will be up against West Delhi Lions, New Delhi Tigers, and South Delhi Superstarz. The DPL 2025 features eight teams, divided into two groups. The top four from the league stage will qualify for the playoffs, ending in the final on August 31 (with September 1 as a reserve day).
