Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel missed the quarter-finals of the Duleep Trophy 2025 due to illness and injury, respectively. While Gill was set to lead North Zone, Jurel was named the captain of Central Zone.

Gill was last in action in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England, where he amassed 754 runs in five Tests at an average of 75.40 in what was his maiden series as India's Test captain. He is expected to reach Bengaluru in the coming week before making his way to UAE for the Asia Cup 2025, which begins on September 9. Haryana's top-order batter Ankit Kumar is leading North Zone in Gill's absence while the latter has been replaced by Services batter Shubham Rohilla in the squad.

As for Central Zone, Jurel was ruled out after a groin niggle ahead of the contest against North East Zone. Rajat Patidar, initially named the Jurel's deputy, is leading the group. Bowlers Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed and Deepak Chahar are all part of the Central Zone lineup.

As for East Zone, they are without Abhimanyu Easwaran as the opening batter was ruled out due to fever. Riyan Parag has taken up the mantle of captaincy in East Zone's season-opening clash against North Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) Ground in Bengaluru. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh are the other big names in the North Zone squad. They will also be heading to the UAE for the Asia Cup later.
