ENG U-19 vs IND U-19 2025: Ayush Mhatre records golden duck in second ODI
It was the second time in a span of a few days that the same bowler from the English side had dismissed Mhatre.
India Under 19 skipper Ayush Mhatre was dismissed on the first legal delivery of the second ODI against England Under 19 at the County Ground in Northampton. Mhatre's off stump went cartwheeling as his defence was breached early on in the game.
Alex French, who had dismissed the batter in the first ODI of the five-match series, had him for a second time in a row. Mhatre looked good during the series opener for his 21, however, this was a huge setback for him and his side.
The back-to-back failures to Mhatre come after some consistent performances in the domestic circuit for Mumbai and for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. Ahead of the current game, his eighth List A appearance, the supremely talented Mhatre possessed an average of 65.42.
Batting at the top of the order, the Mumbai-born batter had a sparkling debut IPL season with CSK. He scored 240 runs in seven matches at a belligerent strike rate of 188.97, with 31 fours and 11 sixes under his belt. Coming in as a mid-season injury replacement for CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, he impressed with his confident and calculated strokeplay.
Speaking of the first game of the series, India U-19 registered a comprehensive victory by six wickets with 156 balls to spare. A collective bowling ensured that the hosts were dismissed for a paltry 174 in 42.2 overs. In reply, a 19-ball 48 by Vaibhav Suryavanshi powered the Men in Blue to the target in just 24 overs.

Wicketkeeper-batter, Abhigyan Kundu, and Rahul Kumar were the unbeaten batters. They scored unbeaten 45 off 34 and unbeaten 17 off 25, respectively. Out of the four wickets which fell, two were taken by French, the same bowler who bowled a beauty to get rid of Mhatre in the ongoing contest.
