India are set to suffer a massive blow as Jasprit Bumrah could miss the second Test against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which starts from Wednesday, July 2, at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Bumrah has been India's most lethal weapon, especially since the Border-Gavaskar series, where the other bowlers failed to give him the support that he would have wanted. The absence of Mohammed Shami and the indifferent form of Mohammed Siraj has put Bumrah under a lot of pressure as he is having to perform the dual role of picking up wickets and containing runs.
Bumrah broke down during the Border-Gavaskar series while playing the fifth and final Test match after taking a lot of load in the first four games. A back issue forced him to miss the subsequent Champions Trophy and also the initial few games for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
To avoid a similar situation, the Indian team management decided beforehand to monitor Bumrah's workload diligently. India's head coach Gautam Gambhir mentioned in a press conference after the five-wicket defeat in the first Test in Leeds that Bumrah will only play three Tests in the series.
A source close to the developments has reportedly informed NDTV that Bumrah will not be considered in the playing XI for the second Test.

R Ashwin asks Mohammed Siraj to take new role in 2nd Test
This will come as a huge disappointment for Indian fans as Bumrah was the only Indian bowler who looked like he could pick up a wicket in every spell at Headingley. Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur proved to be expensive, while Siraj did not show the penetrative ability that he is known for. \So, Bumrah took the onus upon himself and bagged the first five-for of this series in England's first innings.
However, Ben Duckett and Co. learned from their mistakes and played smarter in the second innings. In case the Gujarat seamer has to miss out, India could bring in Akash Deep, who showed promise without much luck in Australia or hand a Test debut to Arshdeep Singh.
