Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh showered praise on Shubman Gill and the rest of the team for their efforts in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England. A young Indian side showed a lot of character to level the five-match series 2-2 against the Ben Stokes-led strong England side.

The World Cup-winning player started off with extolling the Fazilka-born for leading from the front with the bat despite being burdened by the additional responsibility of captaincy. Gill not only handled the responsibility as a skipper well, but also made sure he contributed magnificently with the bat in the five-match series, where he emerged as the highest run getter, of which Yuvraj was in awe.

“There were a lot of question marks over his overseas record. The guy became the captain and scored four Test hundreds. It's just unbelievable that when you're given responsibility, how you take it,” stated Yuvraj while speaking to ICC Digital on the sidelines of the ‘50 Days To Go’ Women’s Cricket World Cup event.

Yuvraj's special praise for Jadeja-Sundar duo

Yuvraj, one of legendary all-rounder of his active days in international cricket, reserved special commendation for Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar too. The 43-year-old stalwart concluded by once again applauding the fighting spirit the Indians showed in the absence of their most experienced players. While spinners have little to do in England, the Jadeja-Sundar duo ensured they made enough runs with the bat to silence the critics.

"I've never seen, in a very long time, Washington and Jadeja got hundreds and drew a Test match. That speaks volumes. Obviously Jadeja has been there for a long time. But I think Washington Sundar, as a youngster coming into the team, it was incredible to do what he did. it's just fantastic because I felt when you have a young team going to England, it's a lot of pressure. You're filling the boots of somebody like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, it's not easy. I think the guys took it head-on,” he commented.

Gill emerged as the leading run-getter of the series (754 runs in 10 innings) across both teams. This was Gill's maiden assignment as Test captain. He attracted a lot of praise from all around with the way he managed the team, which is going through a transitional phase.
