England have announced their squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, which starts on Wednesday, July 1, at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. The Three Lions will return to 20-over action for the first time since suffering defeat at the hands of the Indians in the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Harry Brook will return to his duty as captain in a team which will see some familiar faces make a comeback. These include the likes of Jordan Cox, Saqib Mahmood and Sonny Baker, who did not feature for the side during the T20 World Cup. On the other hand, Jamie Overton and Brydon Carse continue to recover from their respective injuries and are hence not available for selection, while Ben Duckett has been left out of the squad entirely.

However, it is Sussex all-rounder James Coles who will make all the headlines after securing his maiden international call-up following some excellent performances in the domestic and franchise circuit. The 22-year-old had a breakout season for the Sharks in the T20 Blast last season, along with some stellar performances in The Hundred 2025 for the Southern Brave.

He also represented the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the 2026 SA20, where he scored 152 runs at a strike-rate of 170.78, whilst also taking five wickets at an economy of just 7.33. His excellent 12 months in T20 cricket were capped off when the London Spirit made him their most expensive buy during the inaugural auction, signing him for a whopping GBP 390,000.

“James Coles is an exciting addition and has earned his place following his performances with the England Lions and in T20 competitions here and abroad during the past 12 months. We have selected a larger squad to accommodate for the fact that this series will begin shortly after the Test series against New Zealand is due to conclude which allows us to be flexible," England selector Marcus North said.
