Ex-KKR star Bisla picks best-suited team for Hardik Pandya ahead of IPL 2027

Manvinder Bisla, the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) cricketer, has backed KKR as the ideal franchise for Hardik Pandya ahead of the IPL 2027 season. Trade discussions for Pandya are gaining momentum, with KKR emerging as a frontrunner to sign the all-rounder. Bisla believes the franchise offers Pandya the environment he needs to thrive both as a player and leader.

Bisla stated that Kolkata is searching for a leader and represents the perfect fit for Pandya's next chapter. He explained that KKR would provide Pandya with the freedom and leadership opportunity he requires at this stage of his career. According to Bisla, the franchise can offer Pandya everything he needs to succeed.

"100% (On Kolkata being the best-suited team for Hardik). There’s no doubt about it. Kolkata is one team where there is a search for a leader, where he can excel and get the freedom he needs. Because, look, I feel KKR would suit Hardik really well. He will get freedom, he will get leadership, and whatever Hardik needs at this point in time, he will get all of it at KKR." Why Kolkata Knight Riders suits Hardik Pandya

Bisla highlighted Pandya's captaincy credentials as a key reason for his endorsement of the KKR move. The former cricketer noted that Pandya may have leadership aspirations and pointed to his successful tenure as Gujarat Titans captain as evidence of his ability to lead. Under Pandya's captaincy, Gujarat Titans won the IPL title in 2022 and reached another final in 2023, demonstrating his effectiveness as a leader.

Bisla also addressed Pandya's experience at Mumbai Indians, suggesting that his time there has been challenging due to the presence of multiple senior leaders within the squad. He explained that managing numerous leaders can create difficulties for a team, which may have affected Pandya's performance and role at MI. In contrast, Bisla believes KKR's search for a leader creates an ideal opportunity for Pandya to establish himself as the franchise's primary captain.

"He might also have leadership on his mind, thinking, ‘I need to show somewhere that I am a very good leader.’ Because if you look at his time leading GT, the team became champions and also reached another final. So I don’t think you can have too many doubts about his captaincy. Obviously, his two or three years with MI haven’t been that great because, as you can see, there are a lot of leaders in that team, and managing so many leaders can sometimes be very difficult for teams," Bisla said.

The logistics of bringing Pandya to KKR remain complex, as Mumbai Indians would likely demand significant compensation for releasing the all-rounder. Bisla acknowledged that MI would expect one or two players in return to complete any trade deal. He stressed that negotiating such a transaction would present considerable challenges for both franchises.

"But the question is, what does Mumbai Indians want from KKR? Because Mumbai Indians will also feel that if a player like Hardik is leaving them, they should at least get one or two players in return who can fit into their playing XI. That’s why getting this deal done would be very difficult. But if Kolkata manage to bring Hardik into their team, I’ve never seen a bigger trade than this in my life, brother," Bisla said.
