Captain Kane Williamson’s form has been the talk of the town for quite some time now. The discussion recently escalated when the 32-year-old scored at a strike rate of 100 against England which eventually cost them the match by 20 runs. Williamson’s 40 off 40 went in vain and more so, has been criticised heavily on social media.
The batter however isn’t concerned about all that and is ready to focus on what his team needs. Before their crucial match against Ireland in their final Super 12 of the T20 World Cup, Williamson clarified how he is trying to play the role that his team needs but aims to improve to get the result.
“I think there are some parts where everything is going well and there are some parts where I’m looking for a little bit of rhythm. It’s a boundary or two away, so just staying with that, working hard, focusing on what the team needs and trying to align my decision-making with that and that is very much the focus. Knowing that within this game over the period of time, you go through periods of how you feel and adjustments you need to make.
"So, at the moment I am trying to keep improving and play a role as best as I can and enjoy,” said Williamson in the pre-match press conference.
With the bat, there are number of phases and gears to go through: Williamson
In the year 2022, the Kiwi captain played 10 T20I matches and scored 275 runs at a poor strike rate of 112.70. Even though he averages 30 in the shortest format of the game, his strike rate needs a massive improvement. With New Zealand on the verge of qualifying for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, the skipper needs to lead by example and Kane himself is aiming to do that.
“It’s just about making a contribution for the team and moving the team in whatever way possible. With the bat, I guess there are a number of phases or gears to go through. I definitely want to touch the third and fourth gear and hit some different areas in the ground,” he said before taking on Ireland.
