Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Arshad Khan has admitted that winning and reaching the finals is of primary focus for the team, as they prepare to face Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator on May 30 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

GT recently suffered two consecutive defeats in the league stage, which saw them drop to third place in the points table. The bowler reflected on the team’s mindset after their loss to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and described it as a tough setback, but emphasised the importance of staying optimistic.

“I think our last game was not that good, but in the upcoming match, whether we play an eliminator or a qualifier, what holds the most importance to us is winning, and it is God's plan that we are getting to play an extra game. So, we will try to win this match and reach the finals and eventually win that one as well,” said Arshad as quoted by NDTVSports.

GT, who were a dominant force in the IPL 2022 and 2023 seasons under the leadership of Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill, will look to replicate their past success and push for the title again this year. The left-arm pacer acknowledged the do-or-die nature of the upcoming clash and stressed that every game is a learning experience.

“Every match is important, and every match teaches us something,” he added.

Arshad also conceded that the Hardik Pandya-led team has had its own share of ups and downs, but remains a dangerous opponent, especially in high-stakes matches. He emphasised that it is not about who the opponent is, but rather how well the team executes its ideas on the match day.

Earlier in the season, GT faced MI twice in the league stage and emerged victorious on both occasions. So, GT will aim to repeat their success in the Eliminator at Mullanpur against the five-time champions.
