Legendary Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh expressed his belief that Suryakumar Yadav should be a regular presence in India's lineup for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Suryakumar's amazing half-century against Australia in Indore in the second ODI has certainly given Harbhajan enough reason to say something like that. Surya smashed the Aussies bowlers all around the park and scored a quickfire 72 of just 37 balls with six fours and six sixes.
“Suryakumar Yadav should play every match. In whose place, I don’t know. But his name should be the first one to be written down. After that, the other players should be selected,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.
Suryakumar's brilliant knock played a pivotal role in securing India's 99-run victory by the DLS method. His inning was the fastest ODI fifty by an Indian against Australia. Harbhajan was expressive in his praise, saying, “He is a player who can win you games and completely change the complexion of a match. When he performs, he will turn the match into a one-sided one. There is no better player who can bat a better strike rate."
Suryakumar Yadav has been included in India’s 15-member squad for the forthcoming home World Cup, and Harbhajan suggests that his role should extend beyond mere participation. “Among finishers, we have Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, but I feel Suryakumar Yadav should play at No. 5. He should play every World Cup match. No team has a better player than him,” Harbhajan added.
As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Harbhajan's statement for Suryakumar Yadav speaks about his talent. The young batter's ability to take control of a game and his impressive strike rate make him an essential asset in India's quest for winning the marquee trophy.
India team is all set to take on Australia in the third and final ODI of the series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on September 27. Currently, the Men in Blue lead the 3-match ODI series by 2-0.
