Ever since Brendon McCullum has been appointed as the new head coach of the England Test team, the Ben Stokes-led side has managed to win nine out of their last ten Test matches. Their formula of playing a fearless brand of cricket in the longest format of the game is working well and the head coach has given all the credit to Stokes for England’s recent success in Test cricket.
He believes that under the leadership of Stokes, England do not have a limit as he is a guy who writes his own scripts. He stated that the 31-year-old has a lot of plans and is eager to drag the boys along for the ride.
“With the skipper (Ben Stokes) in charge, I’m not sure what’s possible for this side because he’s a guy who writes his own scripts and achieves some pretty special things. I know the plans he has for this team are quite lofty and he’ll try to do what he can to drag the boys along for the ride.
It’s been a good start. Results have been great, but it’s not so much about results. I know we get judged on them, but that’s not really my focus, and that goes for the skipper as well.
We just want the guys to play a style of cricket that gives them the greatest opportunity to allow their talent to come out and have a good time doing it,” said McCullum ahead of the two-match Test series against New Zealand as quoted by independent.co.uk.
Fans are going to be entertained, regardless of whether New Zealand win or we win: McCullum
This is for the first time, Brendon McCullum will be travelling to his home country as England's red-ball head coach. He, however, believes that the local fans will gather and enjoy the brand of cricket that England offer and also reckons that no matter who ends up winning the Test series, the fans will eventually be entertained.
“Even if your team doesn’t win, you can still walk away thinking you’ve had a hell of a day out. Hopefully, that will be the case throughout this series. They (Fans) are going to be entertained, regardless of whether New Zealand win or we win,” said the former cricketer.
“People are patriotic and want their own team to win, but this is one of the reasons we’re in the job we’re in – we want to make Test cricket entertaining and ensure that people walk away with a great experience from the game,” he added.
