Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has been sensational for the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Making brief cameos, Dhoni has been taking fans down the memory lane with his knocks in the tournament.
Recently, seeing his performance against Rajasthan Royals, former England skipper Eoin Morgan opined that Dhoni knew what was the best for himself and even discussed the possibility of the keeper-batter pushing himself up the order in the forthcoming matches of Chennai.
"Their batting lineup is probably as strong as it's going to be at the moment. I know he likes to put himself down the order, otherwise, we would've seen him promoting himself (by now). I don't envisage him batting higher than normal at the moment. Potentially, in the playoffs, in different circumstances, he might. But I don't see it right now. He's the best judge of himself, and if he doesn't feel that, it isn't the best time," Morgan told Hindustan Times.
MS Dhoni’s valiant effort in vain as RR clinch thriller against CSK
In Chennai’s previous game against the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals, the visitors notched up 175 runs after excellent knocks by Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Devdutt Padikkal and Ravichandran Ashwin. In the second innings, man-in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to make an impact as he was sent back to the pavilion quite early on in the innings. However, Devon Conway scored a resilient knock, adding 50 runs to his name.
Skipper MS Dhoni and veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja did push the game to the wire. Dhoni played an unbeaten knock of 32 runs in 17 deliveries, whereas Ravindra Jadeja scored 25* runs to keep Chennai's hopes alive till the last delivery. As Chennai required 19 runs off the last over, the 41-year-old played a vintage knock, but it failed to suffice in the end as Rajasthan won the game by three runs. The win propelled Rajasthan to the top of the IPL points table with six points in four matches, whereas Chennai find themselves in the fifth place with four points from as many matches.
