But the rewards don't stop there. The runners-up in this edition of the World Cup will get a handsome consolation prize of USD 2 million. Even the teams that falter at the semi-final stage won't be going home empty-handed, as they will each receive USD 800,000.
In 2019, the winner received $4,000,000, the runner-up got $2 million losing semi-finalists earned $800,000, and there was no prize for losing quarter-finalists. The winner of each group match received $40,000, and teams eliminated in the group stage received $100,000.
In 2015, the winner's prize was $3,975,000, the runner-up received $1,750,000, losing semi-finalists received $600,000, and losing quarter-finalists received $300,000. The winner of each group match earned $45,000, and teams eliminated in the group stage received $35,000.
In comparison, the winners of FIFA World Cup 2022 will take home a whopping $42 million while the runners-up will receive $30 million. The third-placed and fourth-placed team will get $27 million and $25 million, respectively, whereas the teams ranked 5th to 8th on the points table will receive $17 million each.
