Former India batter Aakash Chopra urged youngsters Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad to take more responsibility with the bat in the remaining two ODIs against South Africa. With India reeling at 8 for 2 in the first ODI, the stage was set for Ishan and Ruturaj to build a big partnership and make a statement. Instead, both the batters were dismissed cheaply after getting starts and it left India tottering at 51 for 4.

Ishan was earlier a part of the scheme of things for the T20 World Cup 2022 but was left out once the regular players in KL Rahul and Virat Kohli returned. Ruturaj, who made his ODI debut in Lucknow, has been struggling to replicate his IPL 2021 performance in international cricket so far.

You need to make the most of your chances: Aakash Chopra

Chopra felt that Washington Sundar is in line to replace Ravi Bishnoi in the playing XI, while he expected a better application from the two youngsters, Ruturaj and Ishan. He mentioned the examples of Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson who were impressive in the first ODI and highlighted the significance of making the most out of the chances.

"I am expecting just one change in the Indian team and that is Washington Sundar coming in place of Ravi Bishnoi. I hope the likes of Ruturaj and Ishan take on more responsibility and show better application," Chopra told on his YouTube Channel.

"You're getting the chances now, but once the T20 World Cup is done, the seniors will be available and they will play. You need to make the most of your chances like Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer have done," he added.

The second ODI is scheduled to take place at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, October 9, with the series on line for India. South Africa produced a high quality performance in the first ODI in both the batting and bowling departments and would be looking to continue with that.
