KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) turned the game around in the final few overs courtesy of Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis’ blitzkrieg that helped them obtain a win in the last ball of the thrilling affair. However, following the sensational chase, skipper Rahul expressed that he made the right call of playing cautiously during his time at the crease.
Faf du Plessis and Co. posted a mammoth 212 runs thanks to the top-order operating in tandem. While the skipper got 79 off 46 runs, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell got scores of 61 and 59 runs, respectively.
In response to the chase, openers KL Rahul and explosive hitter Kyle Mayers got off to a dismal start as the latter was dismissed for nought. Additionally, the home side reduced the Super Giants to 23 for the loss of three in four overs and required their skipper to lead from the front in order to revive the chase.
However, Rahul decided to play delicately in the high-scoring chase and was eventually sent packing for 18 runs off 20 balls, which further mounted the pressure on his team.
"I want to score more runs and I think I score more runs; the strike rate goes up. We have played a couple of games in tough wickets in Lucknow. Today we lost 3 wickets so I look at the situation and I felt like I did the right thing and if I could have carried on and stayed there till the end and stayed with Nicky (Nicholas Pooran), could've won the game a lot easier. Once I get some good knocks under my belt, I'll start feeling good and that will go up," Rahul said in the post-match presentation.
Pooran-Stoinis help LSG prevail in the electric chase
Following the dismissals at regular intervals, the lower middle-order courtesy of Pooran and Stoinis steered the side to a historic win. Stoinis clobbered five maximums and six boundaries to register 65 runs off 30 balls.
Meanwhile, Pooran breathed fire as he slammed the fastest fifty off mere 15 balls and concluded with a score of 62 runs to seal the contest. LSG will look to maintain their momentum when they play Punjab Kings on Saturday, April 15.
