ILT20 to not be recorded on players' T20 records, confirms ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that International LeagueT20 (ILT20), the UAE-based franchise league, will not be granted the status of List A T20 given UAE is not a Full Member of the global body. The ICC further confirmed that no exception will be made for the league.

The inaugural ILT20 is set to kick start on January 13, with Dubai Capitals locking horns with Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the tournament opener. The competition has attracted numerous high-profile cricketers who will feature in the event to make it grand and successful. However, none of the efforts in the tournament will be listed on their formal T20 records, as according to ICC regulations, leagues hosted by non-Full Members nations cannot be given a formal List A T20 status. 

“T20 competitions hosted by non-Full Members cannot be attributed List A T20 status, and the global governing body recently confirmed to statisticians that no special exemption will be made for the big-money tournament in the UAE, which is set to have its inaugural run later this month,” a report by The Cricketer read.

What this essentially means is that if players such as Robin Uthappa, Kieron Pollard, or Trent Boult play out an exceptional innings with either the bat or the ball, their achievements would be listed in the ‘miscellaneous’ or ‘other T20’ columns of statisticians' databases.

"The UAE ILT20 has been sanctioned by the ICC but List A T20 status will not be granted to this event as it does not meet the criteria in the regulations," an ICC spokesperson told The Cricketer.

In any case, the league will certainly keep fans glued to their TV sets and closely follow their favourite franchises. The top-tier competition will prove to be a terrific platform for the local players to garner experience playing alongside the high-profile players.
